I had a lengthy conversation with guy this afternoon about his 300td wagon. I saw the car at the post office (in my 300d) and had to do a quick walk around.

She's a turbo model, rear wheels at the correct level, white (obviously repainted) with nice blue interior, NO RUST, 191k. I left my phone number stating I would like to buy the car if he was interested.

The guy called me the following day, stating he wasn't planning on selling it, but would be willing to give her up to someone who can take care of her. He's the second owner since '93 and he believes that EVERYTHING WORKS. He leaves the car in the garage most of the time, always hid it away during the winter. He also claims alot of work was done 3 or 4 years ago, but barely drives the car anymore. The car was repainted after a 1991 hailstorm, and he also had the rear hatch repaired and repainted after some rust was starting under the rear window.

When I asked him about price, he said he had no idea what these things are going for these days, and asked my opinion. I told I bought mine with 165k for $2,000, but wagons tend to bring a little bit more. I also said that I don't want to make an offer until I can really drive and inspect it.

Overall, the guy was very pleasant, and happy to talk MB diesels. I invited him to come by the house and see my pair, and I can take a look at the car. He's planning to come next Thursday.

I'm hoping the amazing condition of my 300d will cause him to devalue his car a bit. If I can pick her up for under 2gs, woo hoo.
