How much work to move an air conditioner 240D W123?
Hi,
I've found another W123 240D I'm interested in, the only thing it seems to be missing is a/c which is important to me. My current car has perfectly-functioning air conditioning (converted to 134a). Is it realistic to consider removing the air from one car and putting it in the other? Any sense of how many hours of labor that would involve, assuming I can't do it myself?

As a followup: The car I'm looking at is a 1983 Euro model. My car is a 1982 US-spec model.

Compressor, condenser, evaporator and all under hood components oughta be easy. Interior stuff - collector, regulator etc will be buried waaay deep behind the dash, probly near-impossible even for professional AC technicians. Reconnoitre boning everything behind the dash all the way back to the firewall.
Yer best bet is probly a hybrid system, say MB components in the engine bay combined with JCWitney universal/generic interior AC unit mounted to hang under the dash on passenger side. |

Ok, probably not worth it then. I guess I did not realize the level of complexity of the interior components. A/C is an even more valuable option than I thought.

That link wasn't working for me. I think it's this:
http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?postid=526705#post526705 That sounds a little beyond my league (as much as this other car might be sweet with a/c). This car may already be doing limited winter duty due to temps so I don't want a car I can't drive in July and August, too (office clothes, stop-n-go traffic, yadayadayada).
