Got pic of medical box removed?

I am looking to put a 8" sub in the med kit and was wondering if anyone had pics of what it looks like under there? I believe the fuel tank is right there? Anyone know what the clearance is? I was thinking about laying a fiberglass box in there instead of free air.

I can't find it now, but I recently saw a thread where a guy put a sub there and made a 2" spacer to raise the sub away from the tank and give the clearance it needed. They painted the wood spacer the color of the deck carpet and it looked good.

EDIT: I found it, check post #25:

I was planning on 2" of md5 shaped like the lid (more or less). The real question is can I get a dual VC 8" sub in there and or a removable fiberglass box. Looks like Yes to the fiberglass box.

md5? Do you mean MDF? If so, the spacer in that link was made with MDF. The edge of it is rough looking. If you use MDF for your spacer, use drywall compound or wood putty to fill the edges and sand it smooth. I use MDF all the time for lamp bases and if you don't fill the cut edges, the paint will just keep soaking in and never make a good finish.

LOL yes mdf. Thats the programmer in me talking. Mine will look much better than that. I was planning on 1.5-2" of MDF cut at and angle and sanded/rounded smooth covered with appropriately colorde grill cloth. Not OEM but I don't have a cover for the medkit as it is.

Cool ... the grill cloth should look very nice. I look forward to seeing some pics of your finished job.

You could also use an active sub under your passenger seat.

AaronKobi used this one under his seat:
http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2925193

JSL123 used this one under his seat:

Just some other options if you don't end up wanting to deal with the first aid kit area.

I was going to put a sub in my glove box, but there would be no room for the .45

I must be missing something.
It's four (IIRC) screws - why don't you just take it out

Actually it's two screws on the front of the black box. Lift from the front, and the plastic tabs release on the back as you lift from the front.

My friend has the Kenwood version of these. If I can get a dual voice coil in there and a fiberglass box I should be able to hit some really nice lows. My days of womping around are over but the diesel is hardly the quietest car on the road.
