Glow Plug light stays on

I just noticed as I was driving down the road that my glow plug light was on. Why would it do this and is it bad?

Bad GP or relay.

Go to dieselgiant.com and follow the instructions for testing the W123 GP's and relay on his site. Principals are the same for our cars.

If a GP is bad, search "606 & broken GP" before proceeding further.

Thanks, it only did that one time. When the light stays on does this mean that the glowplugs are hot, and if so can this cause engine damage?

Unlikely to cause engine damage but could cause one or more glowplugs to prematurely burn out, if they really are energized. The light may simply be a signal of a problem with the system Your late-model car's computer may also set a code that you can read with a code reader to confirm the problem.

Follow the GP tutorial I suggested above. Takes little expirience, a multi meter and 15 minutes of your time. Then you'll know whats up.
