diesel 2.2 rebuild or no?
Assuming that everything goes to plan, I will be swapping my 2.2 diesel engine into a 190E and mating it to a 5 spd. I was thinking about it and thought while I had the 2.2 out obviously it would be very easy to rebuild it but I didn't want to rebuild the whoe thing if I didn't need too (unless parts are VERY cheap).
so I thought I'd ask here, I was planning on changing the timing set just because I know on most diesel's it's a belt that's supposed to be done every 60K (I don't know if the 2.2 is a belt or a chain but I'll probably do that either way). So, what are your opinions, the motor has 236K on it, what would you do while you had it out? Where would you find parts also? |

I would check timing chain stretch before just outright replacing it. Chances are its already been done and doesnt need it again.

To tell anything about the motor, mileage and a compression test would be very helpful.
The parts are expensive, so I am no advocate of replacing things that aren't worn out. Tom W
