early 70's 4spd, will it work on 617?

i found a early 70's 4 cylinder gasser with a 4spd. the starter is on the passenger side. will this work on a 617? i would love to have a spare for $50

i seem to remember that engines and flywheels were balanced as "one" before 1977? after 77 parts were balanced seperately, maybe others here could confirm...

I would think it should work for you. I am not aware of any benz sedans with direct shifters.

W116 will interchange with a W123 as long is it was from an inline engine. Although I question this as a W116 didn't have a 4 cyl.

It's the finbacks and W108s that have a different trans.
