Driver Authorization System DAS G Wagen

Hi
We have 2002 G Wagen 300D turbodiesel automatic that is proving very troublesome and the dealer here in the south of France is 1)expensive and 2)not very capable.

The car has had over £4000 spent on it for oil leak into the coolant and then cooling system parts and a new battery but it still suffers from (unrelated) DAS failure. I've read and re read the relevant posts but the G Wagen is not very common here.

The rear mirror lights flash alternately when you switch the ignition to position 2, you know they are going to do this as the glow light plug doesn't come on, and you can hear a clunk in the gearbox at the same time as the lights flash.

We have two keys- both with new batteries, I've resynched them by pointing at the mirror and pressing twice then putting in the ignition but no go.

The problem used to be intermittent and I have got the car to start by moving the gearchange around, maybe that was a coincidence.

Anyone with any ideas what to try next??

Have you tried the G-wagen specific forum?

Your's is a CDI engine?

Am assuming your dealer has scanned the DAS system using SDS and found no faults in it or other systems......? If not, go to a real dealer.

The K40 relay (replacement to old OVP relay) provides power to many systems and when fails (develops minute cracks on printed circut board) can cause intermittent electrical faults.

Have never heard of the K40 effecting operation of the NSS (in shifter) so the fact it started after jiggling may be unrelated. Have you tried starting with shifter in N rather than P?

Matt L has a much better understanding of DAS, hopefully he'll chime in.
