metric "e" clips?
I did a valve adjustment on my 240D this weekend, but in the process I lost a little e-clip that holds the throttle linkage rod in the stop lever assembly.
I went to every auto parts store chain in the city, but the only thing they had was English size assortments. I also went to Lowe's, and all they have are English sizes. I went through 2 boxes of the English size assortments from Autozone. Finally, by bending and hammering and prying I was able to get one on. It has held up so far, but I am a little concerned about it long term b/c of all the strain on the metal (I broke one other one trying to stretch it out). So my question is if anyone knows a conveinient source for metric e-clips? Or, is this something I need to go to the dealer for? If so, is it something they will likely have in stock? My local dealership mo longer stocks supplies for w123. Everything now must be ordered. But I couls imaging that these e-clips are still used in more modern cars. Thanks!

Look in your phone book under fasteners. Most of those places should have them.
Also some better stocked hardware stores will have them. Try some that cater to the farm community. |

Mobetta - no it's this thing....
81300SD - Thanks, I tried Lowe's but all they had was english sizes. I will try TrueValue - though my local TrueValue is closing out - going out of buisness! I am not sure what I am going to do without them

I doubt you will find them at True Value. Any of the home improvement places like Lowes will not have them. We have a couple of hardware(not geared towards home improvement) stores that cater to farmers and I know they have tons of that stuff.
Your best bet though is a fasteners outfit. |

I wouldn't mess around looking for such small items from other sources ....... go straight to the dealer. It will be right and not cost much. All I ever buy from the dealer is nuts, bolts, fastners, etc. I did a valve adjustment on a 300D this weekend and lost the same clip you did somewhere down in the engine. Dealer had it for $1.74 and it fit perfectly.

It's simply sheer fantasy, i.e. dreaming, to think there's any source for this sort of thing except the dealer.

If a dealer was closer than a fastener shop then I would most likely just hit up the dealer. Savings would be squashed by the time/fuel taken to go somewhere else. I am sure there is some fastener somewhere on a mercedes that is fairly uncommon, but so far everything I have seen is pretty common other than being metric. |

Yep. I just went out and measured it. 8mm. Reminds me that there was none on my car when I bought it. I used a 5/16 E clip. It works but it ain't right. i found them at true value. I ended up using the same clip that holds on the shifter linkage because it fit better and seemed like a better design. True value has those too

Thanks everyone - I went to a local branch of Fastenal and got a 4 each of 6-10MM sizes. It's the 7MM ones that fit, btw.
The whole shebang cost me $1.76
