New Springs or Shocks?
How do I know whether to change just the rear shocks or springs as well. The car (82 300D) bounces all over the places, and bounces three or four times when pushed down in the back. Is there a way to check if the springs are bad, I have heard measuring them?...

Unless the vehicle sits extraordinarily low in the rear, it's likely that only the shocks need replacement. When you replace the shocks, you'll get another 1/2" of height in the rear.

Yes, 100%

Shocks - replace them - do all four corners, if the backs are bad, the fronts are not far behind. Use Bilsteins - don't even price other shocks you won't be happy with them. Click on Buy Parts here on MBShop, Phil has some of the best prices.

Similar question about my '78 300D, except mine sags only with passengers in the rear seat. I don't notice any significant bounce and car generally rides pretty smoothly. The car just sags under weight - I have already changed the rear differential mount and it helped some.
