Beware of Needles!

Just thought I'd save someone out there a few bucks. While driving from Washington state to Arizona I had a really big shock. I was paying about $1.30 a gallon for diesel and between $1.60 to $1.90 for super unleaded for my wifes car. Well in Needles, Ca. fuel is EXPENSIVE! Super unleaded was $2.20 a gallon and diesel was $2.30! Why? They said "it's just expensive here." Little did I know that 10 miles up the road it was back to $1.32 a gallon. Live and learn. andy

That would be East. There aren't any fuel stops West of Needles for a long ways. Two years ago I was headed to Raton, NM pulled in at Needles cause I needed fuel bad. Stopped at the first Texaco and started filling up. When I was almost topped off I noticed the price was $2.15 per gallon for low grade unleaded. I think it has something to do with it being the first "real" place to get fuel after passing through the California desert. Most folks probably figure it's the only place between there and Phoenix so they stop and the Needles gas stations continue to rake in the $$$$.
