Check those fuses!!!
The A/C fan in my pristine 93 300D suddenly started acting up. It worked perfectly on a recent one hour trip. When I started to return home, the fan would not come on. I had never had any fuse problems, but I opened the main fuse box and when I did not find any fan fuses, continued to look and found the small external fuse box with the two parallel fuses. I replaced one of the those fuses and the fan started working, for a few minutes. I made another stop, the fan started working again, then later stopped. I got home and read the various posts about A/C fans and found out about the blade fuse. I really didn't expect it to be a fuse problem because it was intermittent. BUT, I checked it anyway. LO and BEHOLD, the blade fuse had broken in half, hairline break, and sometimes, made contact and sometimes not. Thank goodness for the expertise of all ya'll.
Moral of the story- Always check your fuses!!!
