I wish I had a secret Stash of W123 Diesel parts but I don't!(Indy Jones, part 4).

I saw the Indiana Jones previews and got a great idea about a secret Mercedes 300D parts stash treasure map and I even started thinking about posting a tall tale blog about finding Herman Goering's Mercedes in a Barn in pristine condition to have some fun with amateur Historians and back it up with a Website and and realistic facts to spark a hunt all over NJ by amateur historians..

well it blew up in my face, because now i get a lot of PMs and emails asking if i have this part or that part, and i honestly don't. I am not a selfish person. and i am not a Businessman or a hoarder or stasher. For one thing i am so broke and the second thing is where would I store them? In my Managed Community's Office? They are already after me for my three colored pickup truck

I am just your avg beer drinking fun loving guy who has more fun underneath his car or in junkyard than at a golf course or dinner party...

the ironic part

is that with the present oil shock many of these cars are going to the crusher and parts will be at a premium when the oil shock ends just like the last one in about two years...

then these cars will be a rarity

well, I have this nagging feeling that this one isn't going to ever get completely back to normal. If oil stays oevr $100 a barrel then things are still going to hurt when you fill up, as well as almost everything else that uses oil or is delivered to market using petrol diesel or anything, why even Bio is up. And the corn production for methanol is screwing up the world food supplies, Inflation is the word!
I look at this as a possible buying opportunity, why don't people with the newer diesels start selling them or donating to charity? they are still asking over $25K for a MB E320-CDI. sheesh we need them to come down to the 5000 buck level guys!

'80s Mercedes Diesels cost just as much as ever here. There is a '85 300CD on craigslist here for $10,000.

I think the value of these cars will shoot way up in the next 4-6 years as gas continues to rise in price with crude and diesel (bio) drops in price as algae biodiesel becomes available.

Hopefully not too many get scrapped while diesel is expensive. It might be a good time to hoard parts. There are NONE in the junkyards in my area.

There are a lot of overpriced MB diesels on craigslist, and they usually sit there for months.
VW's clean diesel cars are going to be sold nation wide next year, and Honda should be over here soon too. I think when that happens, the demand for the MB's will go down a little.

Possibly, but the new clean diesels will be expensive. I'd rather have a used diesel Mercedes for $10,000 than a new VW diesel for $30,000.
