0-60 times, 76 300D?
 

What should a reasonable 0-60 time be for my car? It just feels very slow, I have to floor it from every stoplight in order to keep pace with traffic.
It doesnt smoke hevily, or have much blowby. It does however, not start easily. The valves havent been adjusted in years, but it's been sitting for years. They were religiously adjusted by my dad every 6 months (i think he was bored, but anyways...)


I'm running it now, and it just feels very slow, and I'd like to know how long it should take to accelerate from 0-60...

I'm not sure for your car, maybe 20-25 seconds.

A naturally aspirated OM617 with an automatic trans is an incredibly slow car. Not to worry, its such an enjoyable place to be that you dont really care.

Don't know if it helps much but my 240D 4-speed will do 0-60 in roughly 20 to 22 seconds on the flat without the air running. Do need valves adjusted though.

About a day and a half:D

Back when I had my 76 300d (God rest its soul) I timed my 0-60 at 33 seconds.

Timed at 27.8, 28.2, and 31 (uphill slightly) each, with my cell phone timer. All three were with a warm engine.

Looks like normal to me. You just need to catch up on any missed maintenance. Valve adjustment, fuel filters, injectors, coolant flush etc.

Thats the problem with the W115, its very difficult to know if it has 0xxK miles, 1xxK miles, 2xxK miles, 3xxK miles etc. A good car might look like it has, for example, 160k miles but in reality it more likely has 260k miles.

Yikes.....I think I'd go crazy. Especially with the way people around here drive....you've gotta have some power to hold your own! :eek:

We test drove a manual 240 (also an automatic one) a while back, and decided we'd both (my dad and I) go insane driving one. So we're sticking to a 617 turbo or higher. We'd consider a manual N/A 617.....but no less.

Is it normal for a 617 to feel like it has MUCH more power after it has warmed up completely? Mine feels a bit slow, but it could just be me. lol

Timed my 76 300D this morning just using my watch. About 29 seconds, give or take a half or so for user error. Might have been faster if I hadn't gotten a nasty flair between 2nd and 3rd gear. That's the first time that's happened but I rarely completely floor it. My daily driver of late is a supercharged Miata and getting into the w115 after driving that thing feels like someone tied off a flatbed behind me.

One might think measuring 0-60 times while looking at a watch from time to time is dangerous. Not so in a w115 300d. It is a leisurely pull at best. Call up a number, have a conversation on the Bluetooth, hang up and you still haven't broken the speed limit.

It is a nice place to be, though. I thouroughly enjoy driving all of my "slow" Benz's. BTW, my insurance company gives a "high performance" surcharge to both the 190's. They are decidedly behind the times!

Is a 300 Turbo any better?
 

Or does turbo only really help out at highway speed acceleration?

The turbo will work any time the engine is above 2000rpm.

FWIW, I have read that the factory 0-100kph (62mph) times for the 240 and 300 D (W123) series were as follows

300d Turbo - 15.0 seconds
300d NA - 19.2 seconds
240d manual - 31.3 seconds
240d auto - 33.1 seconds

Dunno about the SDs or TDs - but with similar weights and engines they should be close.

Of course those are in original factory condition - which few of them are now 20+ years later...
