I have only sent out one email to the aforementioned supplier in PDX. Personally don't want to spend more than $160 on filters. From what I have seen they can be had for just under $14 each after shipping; the one link in the oil filter thread was cheap but required $2000.00 for free shipping!! I am not going that far, but it was the best price I've seen.
More people, less cost ,you know the drill. I have also been considering aproaching diesel service stations or fleet mechanics (maybe FI has something to say?) about getting this on one of their shipments.
Ideally there would be small group of people involved that would check there local sources. For the right price I would buy a case of 12 @$170 total, maybe a little more since I would change the filter every other change.

If not.. I am sticking w/ the full flow WIX.

This is the best thing happening so far (for anyone):

http://www.bfwebexpress.com/catalog.asp

Buy a case and it comes out under $13 each.

I was told by sales that the price is going up this week. At this point it makes no sense to have group buy to save on shipping. The price diff is negligeable compared to what you are paying in stores for the junk.

Are the Baldwin that much better than the WIX? $13 vs. $8.50? I have ran WIX on about everything, I know everyone has their favorite, just curious about the price differance vs. quality.

Take a look at the WIX 51385 Nominal Micron Rating of 32 Microns this is awful; when the other filters have a Nominal Micron Rating of 22-17 microns in the full flow section of the filter. Also a Nominal Micron Rating means the on the first pass 50% of the 32 Micron or larger particlse are filtered out. This is not good filtration.
You can use the P102 to cross referance:

According to the Wix website, the P102 equivalent filter has a nominal micron rating of 32 for whole full flow section. The Baldwin's Full Flow small lower section to be 18 microns and the by-pass at 15 microns as stated in this post located in this thread.

BALDWIN?
As engine power has increased, so have bearing loads, engine rpms and operating temperatures. With the introduction of combination full-flow/ by-pass filters, equipment operators have gained added efficiency in their vehicles performance. However, as newer engines have been designed with improved oil control, oil drain intervals have been increased to account for lower oil usage levels.

This means that lube filters must be more effective in trapping oil contaminants, and oil drain intervals must be monitored more closely to prevent excessive engine wear. For example, as oil sump capacity decreases, the concentration of fine contaminants in the sump increases. This requires both the oil and the filter to work more effectively to keep particles out of the engine. Filter media today ranges from the long popular and proven cellulose to synthetic media made of fiberglass, polyester, "microglass and various blends of these materials. Each type of media has specific applications for which it is best suited. Cellulose filters are high in efficiency and capacity, yet low in cost. Typically, cellulose filters are rated 98% efficiency at 40 microns. Cellulose media is used in varied oil, air, fuel and some hydraulic applications.

15/18 microns as stated (diesel911) - info not on website
