fuel pump

Will the fuel pump(primer pump assembly) from an '84 300TD wagon work in an '80 300D?
Thanks,
Vince

You are refering to the manual primer pump and not the lift pump or IP itself, correct?

I believe they are the same; although having had one fail, why would you want to install a used pump rather than purchase the newer updated version that doesnt leak?

The new version WILL outlive your engine.

Show my ignorance

I believe I am talking about the lift pump. The primer pump is mounted on the lift pump isn't it? When I was looking up pumps all I found was primer pumps and primer pump assemblys.
I am looking into buying an 80 300d that the owner says it only needs a fuel pump. I have an 84 300td wagon, the owner of the 300d said I could put a different pump on it before I decide to buy, so instead of buying a new one I thought I would borrow the one off of the one I have.

I saw your other post on the diesel forum.

Lift pumps rarely go bad. Its just a simple piston that pull fuel up from the tank. the manual primer did cause problems and was redesigned. The one you linked to is the entire assembly. More than likely all you need is the manual primer pump. They used to be ~$25 or so. The old ones were notorious for leaks and causing no starts due to air being allowed into the fuel system.
