HELP NEEDED. 87 300sdl 603 eng.
Had a valve job done on a used head I purchased. Went to install the injectors and the hole was too large. Got to looking at my original head and there is an insert looking thing where the injector screws into with two cut outs on top surface.
My rebuild head is missing this insert looking thing and all I see is vertical splines. Its evident what is missing but HOW does it come out of my original head?? The machine shop supposedly didn't have the prechambers out. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks. |

You are missing the collar. You need a two prong socket to remove them.

So, what I'm describing; the part in my original head that has the two slots in the face of it; how does that come out? I'll take them out of my old head and install them into my rebuilt head.
Thanks. Maybe I'm confusing myself as to what the actual prechamber is. I was thinking the prechamber was still in the head. |

The threads that are on the injector is about 1" or so from end of injector. There are no threads for it to thread into. There are verical splines adjacent to the threads on the injector when it is placed into head with alot of space around it..

Sorry, that was my bad.. just listen FI, he's much more familiar with this.
you can make the the socket he is talking about by grinding down the edges of a cheapo socket w/ the right circumference and leaving two stubs. If you are careful you can remove the collars from the old head with hammer and a punch / or drive / mandrel / large flathead screwdriver. You risk deforming the collars. Upon install they should be torqued to spec. Last edited by jt20; 06-12-2008 at 06:49 PM. |
