W123 Fusebox Cover: Idiotic

I've always thought the fusebox covers on 60s Mercedes were slightly tricky to align, but the oversize cover on the W123 is just ridiculous. You have to find every possible angle to put the cover back on. I'm thinking origami would work better. That cover is not their designers' finest hour.

I can get it off or on in less than 15 seconds...

They designed the car around the fuse box.

The first time took me a few minutes, now I can do it in seconds. You'll get the hang off it.

At least if it gets loose for some reason, it won't go anywhere easily...

i think i have finally got the rubik's cube esque formula worked out to get it off and on. Agreed, completely ridiculous ! Rest of the car is pretty great though.

The rubber hood gasket right above it is designed to pull away, to give plenty of room to remove it. Just grab the gasket on the drivers side and pull it toward the center of the car, pull it off just enought to get to the cover easier - when your done, just push it back into place. You also need to do that on the other side of the car if you ever need to remove the battery.

My issue isn't pulling it off. I found it tricky to put it back on if you've removed it completely from the "void."

It's just one of those details that makes you wonder what they were thinking. No big deal really. Just a minor annoyance.

With that said, I do love the car. It's just so right in so many ways. I really do want to have one in my garage indefinitely.

You are joking, right?
Don't make him do that.
It isn't funny.

Removing the lid is very easy. Here is a video that shows you can remove and install it with one hand in about 20 seconds.

Actually this method works just fine and makes the process simple. Its not glued on its just a weather stripping that sits there.
