Steering/suspension help needed (W124 diesel) HELP!

Not much traffic in the tech help section, so I am hoping my friends here in DD might be able to help. Symptoms and specifics at:

http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/showthread.php?p=1886342#post1886342

Any thoughts? I'm at wit's end here!

I have been having similar problems. In my case, it seems as the steering is almost hyper-sensitive, with the car darting right or left with little steering wheel movement. i have replaced my wheel bearings (no change), sway bar bushings (no change), and most recently had the whole car aligned. The alignment helped a fair amount, but the symptoms are still there just not as pronounced. I have since developed a bad (squeaking, creaking) ball joint, which is getting replaced next week. In speaking with the shop, they indicate the bad ball joint would not cause the problem.

i too am at wits end!

We should start a club, eh? Well, I'll try to keep the thread updated in case I have a "Eureka" moment and figure out what's causing this. I think I'll install my new strut mounts and get a dealer alignment to start... maybe that'll fix it. I can hope, anyway.

Does yours "dart" a bit when you hit bumps or cracks on the highway surface? Mine does, and then when I go to correct it, the steering seems to over-correct, and it gets real squirrelly.

Thanks for the reply, by the way!

Classic toe-in symptom, possibly aggrevated by toe-out on the rear.

Thank you! Hopefully an alignment might do the trick. I won't know for a while, though -- just got word that my Guard unit is being activated for flood relief. Lord knows how long that'll take!

Thanks again for the input!
