300D climate control question

I've read the owner's manual and other info about climate control operation, but it is not clear which modes provide 'fresh air mode' (pulling in air from the outside) and circulating (using just the air inside the car) functions.
We have smoke everywhere in Northern Calif....& want to keep the smoke out!

Thanks,

Scott

Helps to know the year/model of the car, 300D is several configurations and models here in the US.

The climate control system will bring in fresh (outside) air in all modes unless the recirculate button is pressed (the one with the arrows arranged in a circle).

The car is an '84 model. Mine has the 5 button climate control. I don't have the button with the circle you described. I just got back from a drive to town in very smokey conditions. It appeared to not be pulling in outside air and smoke.

Thanks

Welcome to the mysterious and vague automatic climate control of the early 80's;). Do a search W123 ACC and you will have something to read all evening. There are ways to make the outside air stay closed 100% of the time but it is sortofa pia.

Thanks for that mode table. That's awesome. One question though, on the Fresh/In-Car Air Flap, does Open mean Fresh Air or In-Car Air?

It appears that Open means In-Car Air and Closed would be Fresh Air.

The table shows the position of the flap. So I'm thinking closed means recirc air.
e.g. when Economy is used the fresh air flap is closed, hence recirc'ed
