SDL HVAC vac pod locations? or diagram?
Does anyone have a vac diagram handy for the '87 SDL for the HVAC? I have weak center vents (leaking pod) and I need to see which pods are for what that I have leaking.

I have the diagrams in hard copy.
However, all your tests should be done at the manifold...........right next to the radio/CCU on the right side. You'll need to remove the carpet on the tunnel to access it. From the top: 1) Runs the short stroke for the two main flap pods. 2) Runs the long stroke for the two main flap pods (typical culprits). 3) Runs the legroom pod. 4) Runs the center vent pod. 5) Runs the defrost pod long stroke (typical cuplrit). 6) Runs the diverter pod 7) Runs the defrost pod short stroke |
Excellent, exactly what I needed. I've lost my repair CDs in my move. :(

I can help this weekend....

I will be doing the same task this weekend. Dash replacement, front speaker replacement, testing and replacing pods as necessary. I have the repair CD, so let me know what issues you run into and ALSO, let me know if I can help. I'm not available until Saturday, though. daw |
Should I have any volume to the windshield, on middle setting? My better judgement says no.

That's what I figured, gotta love wasted air volume. :(

Main flap and center pods are DOA. :(
What's the story on the center one? I know the repair kits are no good for the dual units, but can I simply rebuild the center one with the evap case in the car? It's got a very tiny hole. |
I couldn't figure out how to remove the center vent pod in the SDL so I put a new diaphragm in-situ. Kinda difficult to get the pod apart without breaking tabs but it can be done.

Agreed. The center pod is almost impossible to access unless you've got very tiny fingers that are very strong. If you do get the pod out, you can use a replacement diaphragm to rebuild them. |
center pod?
Okay, I have a question about the center pod ----- when everyone says the "center pod" are you referring to the one that closes the windshield air flow? If so, isn't that pod just inside of the removed glove box on the left (toward the center dash)? Granted, I did have my dash off when I stared right at it.......so, my orientation may be off a bit.
As I recall, the pod has connection on the upper left side and it twist locks into that bracket. |

Yes, it's shorthand for center vent pod.

I got it open last night, pin hole in that diaphragm.
So, the pod itself has to be out in order to swap the diaphragm? |
