300SD cable connectors, routing, locations
Dear All,
This post is regarding my 300SD. I put three cables back on the engine (the engine is still out of the car). I am not sure how exactly they were routed or where exactly all connectors go. So here come the individual questions. I would really appreciate pictures taken of the solution (of your own 300SD) and either posted here or emailed to me to zaruba@uta.edu. Thanks! 1. I seem to have two engine temperature sensors for the instrument cluster. I am not sure this is common, but I have taken a picture - http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/2sensors.jpg and numbered the sensors. Am I correct assuming that only one of them is connected and that someone just made a shortcut and instead of replacing the old sensor put an additional one in into one of the threaded plugs? I seem to only have one connector that is around there too, so I am guessing (unless an other connect - see one of my later questions) that only one of them was connected. 2. The air sensor on top of the intake manifold, how is it connected (what cable, and what routing)? Numbered picture is here: http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/2sensors.jpg 3. The end of the glow plug cable (after the fifth glow plug connection) still goes on and has two more connectors (one that is slightly longer with a metal fastening piece. Where are they going and how are they routed? I know one of them goes to the oil sensor on the back of the oil filter, but which one, and how, and where does the other one go (and how)? Picture is here: http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/glowp-able.jpg 4. the glow cable (again) before it is fastened to the first glow plug it is split. Three wires bundled together go to the passenger side of the engine. How are they routed, and which one is connected to which sensor (there are three sensors and three wires but which one goes where and how). I have two pictures with the cables numbered, and the sensors alphabetized. (one of the pictures has the wires connected but I am not sure they are where they should be and probably not with the right routing anyway). http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/heatsensors-1.jpg and http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/heatsensors-2.jpg 5. And finally the rpm sensor that is mounted on the driver side back of the engine. How is its cable routed (until it is reaching its connection point)? http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/rpmsensor-1.jpg and http://zaruserv.uta.edu/300SD/rpmsensor-2.jpg Thanks for reading it through and for answers (especially if they are accompanied with pictures. Best, Greg

My '83 has a different set up. Only one sensor in the block, #2 in fist pic.
My t'stat housing is also different, I have one electrical connection there. Both wires are routed into the large loom(?), don't know where they end up.
