300sd B2 Pistion Repair- W126 Chasis

I am getting ready to roll up my sleeves and perform this fix, but I don't have the tools or even a garage currently. Which makes it very interesting I hope there are no laws against jacking your car up on the street to do work on it.

Does anyone have any pointers? I have read a couple threads about this but as I approach this project I am getting a little nervous.

Does everything come off pretty easily? Do I need any special tools besides a set of metric wrenches, jacks and a jack to prop the transmission on?

I have heard my particular car, the w126 makes it a little easier becuase of better transmission access. I hope this is the case.

At anyrate, if anyone who has done this before has any pointers, and advice would be appreciated

Travis

Get or borrow some tools first.

Someone who has done this should chime in.

Might be easier to work on ramps rather than stands.

It's not a pleasant job because ATF will drip continuously. Wear eye protection. If you're working in a garage, you can let it drip for a day or so to get the drips out of the way. I guess that's not a luxury you have.

If it's windy or even breezy where you're working, shield the transmission innards from dust and debris.

the hardest part is getting the retaining ring off to pull the B2 cover off. I did it on a junk trans and ended up destroying it with a crow bar.
