300SD Fuel System

So, I finally found the right size wrench to properly tighten the new starter, and she cranks. Yay, thanks to everyone for their help in that matter..

However, she isn't starting. I was told before I bought the car that the injection pump was bad but some folks on here seem to think that is unlikely. We've replaced both fuel filters and put in some diesel fuel cleaner to help out.

We popped open one of the lines going to an injector and noticed fuel coming out, so I suppose I can assume that the injection pump works to a point. Could it be possible that there isn't enough pressure building up or something?

How can I diagnose this properly?

It was already primed, we filled the filters and changed them, and we can see fuel being pumped. And uh we saw fuel coming out of the injector line.

Make sure the glow plugs are actually working. It may take a little reading on how to do this depending on your experience level. There is a chance the seller knew nothing about cars or something else is wrong.

When certain of that prime the engine with wd 40 down the intake right at the end of the glow cycle. Do remove the air cleaner cover to do this. Best done with two people. Remember to spray the wd-40 as soon as you start cranking after the end of the glow light. It should light off if engine is fundementally healthy.

If you are positive the glow plugs are working. Not think they are but positive. If the engine does not light off with the wd-40 do a compression check next.

When and if you have accomplished this. Remember the engine has to fire up on the wd-40 for a moment or so. Then work on any fuel supply problems. Otherwise you might just be chasing your tail so to speak.

Too many people vending cars do not really know what they are talking about or can be very knowledgeable and lie. Then there are those that tell the truth. Hard sometime to separate them.
