300cd worth???

This car has been sitting for awhile at an abandon house near mine. I finally tracked down the owner and am going to check out and drive the car tomorrow. It has 144k miles on it. I think he said its a 79'?? could be wrong.
What do you guys think it is worth???? I am planning on making bio for it. Is this motor a good candidate for that or svo?

It's not a '79 (if the trunk badge is correct).

Best guess is somewhere between '82 and '85. It should have the 5cyl OM617A turbodiesel engine. I wouldn't destroy a car like that with SVO, but my OM617A loves bio.

Value could be all over the map. Pristine ones with that kind of mileage can go for $10K+. It all depends on condition and history. If it's rust free and in decent condition I'd go for it.

Price is impossible to call from those pics, look at the 300 CDs that are or have been for sale here and at benzworld and craigslist etc.

If its been sitting for a while it problably needs a bunch of work.

If the paint is original. The interior impecable. The possibility of just 144k really is there. You have to look really carefully to establish that or see real records. It is worth some change if so. You have to try to let him establish a price if possible.

Three thousand would be an excellent price in my mind if the above conditions are met. I would not hesitate to pay it probably more even. There is nothing like a true low milage example but beware it may not be as the odometer indicates. Most are not. that is only about 6 k miles a year if it is an 85. People usually buy diesels to rack up miles. There are rare exceptions of course.

I doubt that. Check out the misaligned MB star on the trunk lid.

well he said he would let it go for $1500. So should I try to get him to $1000??? I guess he bought it for his daughter and we live in Colorado and she had a tough time with it in the winter so she gave it back to him. It has been sitting for 3-4 years.

grass under a car is death. be sure to check the floors. all of the floor carpet comes out without any special effort, but that only tells half the tale since the floors a doubled with space between. crawl under and get a good look at the floors. best scenerio would be to take it to a reputable MB mechanic for a once over since they are more in tune with what to look for.

As others have said, give it a good once-over looking for rust. As long as there are no indications of serious rust issues, BUY IT - for $1000 if you can, or $1500 if he's stubborn about it.

As long as it isn't rusted out, even if you had to replace an engine or tranny with one from a boneyard, it would be more than worth it IMO.

A good looking red coupe in Colorado for $1500? Get it soon or I might.

I'm serious. If its a turbodiesel, not a repaint, no major rust and I can figure out where it is, I might try to get it.
