This company matched the Logo on the box of CV Axles bought by one of the members.

Looks like China and India by the web sites. Napa gets theirs from Singapore. that is pretty much China.

by the time all the old inventory is used up, this is where about all new parts will come from. get use to it.:(

I hope they are worth a crap. CVJ remans 140, NEW from advance... 49... are they 3 times junkier?

I put up thar Raxles company just for their symptoms chart. If you click on the Blued words you get even a better expliation of the symptome.
The Singapore company Ultra8 may indeed be just where there business offices are and may not be an indicatation that they were made in Singapore.
Also who is to say that Indian GSP and the Chinese GSP may also be the same.

The only real way to know is to put them on the car and use them. My guess would be that they are not going to last as long as the original Mercedes axles. But, the same might be said for rebuilt axles.
If the other products they make in that area of the world are a reflection of the CV Axles I would expect less consistent quality and give their stuff an usable but below average rating.
If I could have located those new axles in my area I would have bought them (Kragen Auto Parts is listing them now, 3 months ago they were not listed). I have 3 cars and do not drive far; putting about 5,000 miles per year per car. So for me a cheap axle could last along time.
I will gamble on cheap parts if they are easy to replace and will not damage something more expensive if they fail. As an example; I have read enough on the forum that I never, never should install a cheap timing chain or even a Beck Arnley chain.

It is fairly safe to assume that all these econony axles are the same chinese manufacturer. Just different distributors are handling them their own way. At least the ball tracks are induction hardened they claim.

This in my opinion beats a very light surface hardness. No the steel is at this point is probably not as good as the german steel. On the otherhand our cv joints are not subject to variable steering change loads since they are on the rear axles.

At some point if not already gone the manufacturer of joints for mercedes will leave germany for foreign production cost reasons. The only slight dissapointment is at this stage the chinese company seems to be only aftermarket. Or if the are manufacturing OEM they are keeping quiet about it. It is a possibility though.

So far to my knowledge there have been no negative threads from forum members that have these in service. If this continues they very well may become the standard recommended replacement.

Picked up my axles from Advance Auto todat. GSP brand but no identifying country on, in or around the box.
Pulled my pass axle this afternoon. Everything came apart as it should. With the old axle out I can feel the difference compared to the new, kind of stiff and balky where the new is smooth.
When I pulled the old axle out I looked for the spacer and assume it is the thin ring that was slid up against the inboard can. Correct? I just reuse it?

Yes. The spacer needs to stay with the same side of the diff that it came out of. Take it off of the old axle, put it on the new one.

It will be interesting to see how these new axles hold up. I suspect that many (not all!) of us with older cars won't put on the miles like the first owners did, both because we have newer cars for long-distance travel and because of the cost of fuel. If so, the cheap axles may work out quite well in terms of years of use.

What will happen to rebuilders like CVJ when they run out of good German OE axles to rebuild?

The rebuilders can sell the imported axles themselves would be 1 possible. They could find something else to rebuild; like turbochargers!

My feelings exactly as to mileage driven I expect this car to last many years at my rate of travel as we use the Jetta for all of our long travel for economy and currently known dependability. Still, I am going to like driving the Benz whenever.

Can anyone confirm that an 82' 300d and an 84' 300d have the same rear axles?

Also, when replacing the axles will I need anything beyond a new differential gasket?
