Question AC-Help

I just bought a 1997 E-300 Diesel. 125K miles great cond. The issue is the AC. Changing the setting on the dash set in the Auto position, the passanger side is blowing cold air [good] the drivers side is just cool air.I have tried adjusting the control number up and down such as 57 deg. to as much as 80 deg.Seams like the passanger side adjusted to 69deg. is [great] Can some one out there offer some input before I visit the dealer.

RegardsCasto

This is usually caused by low refrigerant, but a restriction shows identical symptoms. The easiest way to find out is to evacuate the system and recharge by weight to specifications, then see if it performs correctly.

I had the same thing happen in my vehicle, and the unit needed a recharge, which I did myself, using an off the shelf recharge kit. The recharge was done about two months ago, and the condition was corrected. If you don't feel comfortable doing it yourself, you can bring it to the dealer or any reputable ac shop. As another poster mentioned, if you notice a hissing sound coming from the center vent area when the ac is engaged, it is usually associated with low refrigerant. There is also a series of ac tests you can run from your CCU which will give you some idea of whats going on. Other posters on this board can also advise you regarding the use of high and low pressure ac gauges that will give you a more accurate picture of the state of your ac than the off the shelf recharge kit can. Good luck
