87 300D W124 both back windows inop

Both rear windows stopped working at the same time. Both fronts work fine so it is not likely caused by a fuse. I have moved the kid-proofing switch but no change. Any ideas as to cause/fix?

Be sure to check the fuses first. If they're ok, then the most likely (IMHO) is broken wiring to the windows - it seems to happen frequently in the 124. I know I have an issue with one of my rear windows (1987 300 DT Sedan) & it's definately a broken wire, which I will get around to fixing one day.

Windows

dagobox is right about the W124s breaking the wiring between the "B" pillar
and the door.

The other thing is that BOTH the window switch on the console AND the switch
on the door have to be functional.

Broken B-pillar wiring should not have happened on both sides at once (unless it only appeared to happen at once). The only common factor that would not affect the front windows also is the kid switch so I would try removing it and shorting its terminals so it is effectively removed from the circuit. If the car is wired per FSM (not boogered by a PO) the fuses are diagonal -- Fuse "G" covers LF & RR windows, Fuse "H" covers RF & LR windows.

I've got the exact same problem in my new 87 300D. All fuses are fine and I did remove the kid safety swith in the console and jumpered the 2 pins with no success. I am beginning to think it may actually be the wiring in the doors. Hopefully I'll get to it within the next few days.

FWIW - My service manual for the 124 shows that the kid switch allows the chassis ground to be sent to the rear door motors. I would have guessed it was the POS but its not.

I will post my results and findings when I do get to this job.
