Name this part - OM603 IP fitting

I found the the rubber elbow that plugs into part 65 mouted to IP was broken. I used a plastic fitting I found in my mityvac kit which was an elbow that sorta fit OK, just wondering what the little elbow did and what running motor with it broken would of caused. It has a small vacuum line that plugs into it. This is a 1987 300D turbo sedan. I wonder if this would cause the long cranking I was experiencing on cold start.

I will get replacement part from benz dealer but I dont know what to tell them it is / what it plugs into.

The plastic line that plugs into the rubber 90 degree fitting is a vent line. It goes through the firewall into the passenger compartment and terminates under the dash. The factory figured that the air was cleaner there.

I was told that the 90 degree fitting is NLA but that I could get a straight fitting, which I did. I cannot find the part number but you can get it from EPC (now free) or your dealer.

Running the motor with that part completely missing will do no short-term damage.

Maybe you can fit a little filter like the one atop an overboost switchover valve.

OK thanks guys, no cause for alarm then I guess. Certainly wouldnt be the cause of long cranking. Im tempted to leave as is with my little mity-vac spare fitting. It actually looks like the Benz elbow and fits the vent line OD perfectly. Million uses for a mity-vac on this fuel system ...
