Turbo exhaust gas goo worth cleaning?

Hi all,

I replaced my motor mounts last night (alot easier than i expected/read) and while looking up, I saw that there is exhaust gas goo (sorry, what's this stuff called anyways?) leaking from the hose clip + intake hose. See the attached picture.

So I found out the appropriate tech doc titled "09-6020: Removing and Installing Exhaust Gas Turbocharger" and at this point, I'm wondering if its worth the effort to clean out the tube. The reason I ask is that I recently replaced the valve cover breather tube (the one w/ the 90 degree elbow) and cleaned out the crossover pipe. There was accumulated gooey crud in there, but i'm not sure if that does anything.

Is there any tangible benefit re cleaning out the goo from all parts downstream like the mixing pipe, the EGR, intake pipe, etc?

In theory, the accumulation of the black oily mixture displaces some space and will limit the amount of air that the engine can potentially receive at a given level of boost.

In reality, the accumulation probably doesn't make much of a difference.

Yes

All that crap finds it's way into everything in the Intake/Vacuum system all the way to the intake valves.
NASTY, clogs up everything it comes into contact with.
( It's the mixture of EGR soot and oil vapors from the Valve Cover Exhaust Tube
which connects UPSTREAM of the turbocharger.)

(I know,I'm too obsessed with internal engine cleanliness...What's your hobby?)

that pic from gsxr's website was compelling enough for me

thanks for the opinion, gents. At the very least, i'll remove the intake tube, clean it out, and look downstream (if possible) to see how much goo has accumulated.

I doubt much since the EGR feeds in well after the turbo. I'd just spray it with Gunk, rub it with an old tooth brush and call it good.

Engine Overboost fuel control by ALDA

If your Intake Runner (Between the Crossover Pipe and the Intakes themselves)
has that Nasty Black Tarry Goo combined with EGR soot the Pressure Port in
the Intake may become clogged.Which means that if your ever in OverBoost
land the ALDA will continue to allow increasing fuel rates to match the Boost
until Pistons start exiting through the Hood.

Sure, it looks horrible.........but, it's got no effect on engine performance unless it restricts airflow to the point where the engine is overfueled.

No black smoke??............it's not having any effect...........
