Interesting Return on VIN???

Using the EPCnet, I input the VIN of my '84 300D Turbo and it returned "123133 300 D TURBODIESEL JAPAN". Anyone know or care to speculate what the "Japan" portion is about?
Thanks,
Steve

It refers to an island nation off the east coast of Asia.

If the question was on world geography, you would win the award . . . since the query clearly includes the word "portion" within the structure you fail on both grammar and comprehension. Don't feel bad though, I still don't have the answer to my original question.

he must of got one of the pourly built japanese knockoff sedans. Sorry dude. They use thinner gauge steel on the body and less fasteners. Door panel clips are notorious for breaking on the japanese models. However the engines are still made in germany

******* or asso or whatever they say. Based on the condition of this one you must also be sorely mistaken. Very solid.

Any serious answers?
Steve

Change of Question...

I'll rephrase my original question.

Using the EPCnet, I input the VIN of my '84 300D Turbo and it returned "123133 300 D TURBODIESEL JAPAN". Anyone know what the "Japan" portion is about?
Thanks,
Steve

Any chance the car was originally purchased in Japan? My '86 420 was originally purchased in Dusseldorf, Germany and came over here on a boat in 1989 so I get all kinds of bizarre hits on VIN searches (including a duplicate VIN off of a 2001 model which resides, coincidentally, here in Michigan which made plating the car here for the first time...interesting to say the least).

That could be what it is. The only thing odd is I have the original purchase documents and it was purchased under a "visit Germany" type of program. I'll access the papers and verify. It also seemed that the US version of EPCnet (free subscription) would only return hits on the original US purchased vehicles. That is the other reason I ended up perplexed. Once I know one way or the other, I'll PM you with what I find.

Thanks,
Steve

Did you try the Russian VIN site. It's closer to Japan so might give a closer answer.

Actually, it was my lack of familiarity with EPCnet. I forgot to use the filters.
Thanks,

You must be kidding. You must have used EPCnet so you would know it is not a VIN site.
