How much coolant for a 240d?

I just drained and flushed my radiator including the engine block. The owners manual says 10.1 quarts to refill everything. When refilled the car only held about 8 quarts even after I let it run and circulate. Is this normal or am I missing something? I checked the archives but couldn't find an answer. Thanks, JEFF

8qts is about right if you didn't drain the heater circuit too.
