Door key 1982 300D

When this car was aquired it only came with an ignition key. Is the factory door key for the 300D the same as the ignition key? The the ignition key doesn't turn my door lock. Did someone change the ignition key cylinder at some point?

Same key, unless they had vallet keys back then. (doubtful)

Either someone changed the ignition or door lock.

Most likely the ignition cylinder was changed. You can take your VIN number and proof of ownership to a dealer and order the original matching cylinder - about $100.

Let me second the words of Charles. My '87 came with two keys -- one for the ignition and one for the door. I couldn't get the ignition key duplicated because it had been replaced by a PO, probably from a junkyard. Getting the correct ignition cylinder for my VIN from my dealer solved that problem -- and it is the only solution because I know of no one outside of Mercedes who has the equipment to cut that key.

oh, and if you order a replacement cylinder from MB, it will come with a master key (the square head one) even though the parts counter guy will tell you it doesn't I like to order the valet key at the same time.
