Turbo a 95 300D

Has any one tried or hear of adding a turbo to a 95 606 motor. I would assume it's not that hard since you could use all of the parts from a 98-99 turbo motor which should be about the same. The 95 has the mechanical injector pump so it doesen't need any of the electronics from the later car. Possibly some larger injectors and setting the wastegate lower, so you don't make as much boost. Anyone have any ideas?

The challenges may be the same as those facing those wishing to add a turbo to a 617 NA engine, which has been discussed here from time to time. The 606 NA engine does have oil spray to cool the underside of the pistons but does not have a cooling channel cast into the piston like the earlier 603 turbo. There is no mention of the 606 NA having sodium-cooled valves. It's possible that you might get away without that, however.

By far the biggest challenge, IMHO, would be shoehorning the intercooler and other turbo plumbing into your 1995 W124 chassis. You would probably need a W210 donor vehicle; in which case, why not get the whole 606 turbo engine?

Sell your 95, buy a 98-99 W210 turbo for a couple $k more, enjoy the upgraded convienience/saftey features the newer chassis offers and spend more time with your daughter touring in style with the windows down. You wont regret it.

Or sell your car and get a 1987 300D. That motor is almost as quick as the 606.962. You can make it look exactly like your 95 too with some of the updates (i.e. clear blinkers etc)

I have access to a 98 with a blown motor, but the turbo is OK, my car is in very good shape and I thought that I could make it work if the parts were a direct bolt on (intake and exhaust). Are the injectors on the 98's larger or greater output? From my inital measurments there is enough room for the turbo.

I'm a newbie, but getting more intimate with the 606 than I ever intended on... Grab the blown 98. The IP likely has a higher flow # ( and you cant jsut "rejet" an IP), and the injectors will have a higher pressure rating as well.

At some point, rebuilding the 98's 606 head makes sense, which is why I recommend you grab the whole motor.

I've thought about a turbo on my 95, but with 33-35 mpg on B100 and a fresh cyl head, why bother. BUT, BIG BUTT, if I had acccss to a blown 98 mill, I'd jump on it.

It would likely be very difficult to put the '98 IP on his '95. He would need the IFI injection computer, its wiring, and any other parts from the donor car that are involved in DAS. You can't just move these computers from one car to another.

It's a 97 SVT, I will have to fix it. I think the motor had a rod knock. I thought I could use my injector pump because it was not electricaly controled and just increase fueling with larger injectors. I would control boost with the wastegate, like the old Chrysler 4cyl turbos used to do before all the computers became common. I am going to go back and take some more measurements and get some prices on parts this weekend.

First you need to find out if the valves and pistons are different. Bet you they are oil cooled on the turbo charged 606. Either way your going to have to fab up a custom intercooler. So now you need the entire engine, but the problem is making it work. You might be able to bolt your IP onto it. If you need to use the turbo charged car's IP thats a pretty big can of worms. Since that means you will bring all the electronics over with it. Look at the V12 560SL swap to get an idea of the massive job that this is.

Its simpler and cheaper to just buy another car.

Larger injectors will not cause more fuel to be delivered. The pump from a turbocharged 603 may be your best bet.
