How to get to HVAC Vacuum Stuff on 81 300SD??

OK, on my 81 I hear a leak in back of the climate control (when it is off) so took it out but everything is back in there so far I still can not see where the heck everything is. I see a hose cross with some hose unhooked but it sounds like the leak is back further maybe wherever the green hose goes.Do I need to take off the whole console? You would think if I got this far I could get it off but after taking out a few screws it seems stubborn still. Anyway I would greatly appreciate knowing the right "combination" to where I can actually see the stuff in there and not just be feelin around. Much Thanks!

Remove the right side kick panel.

Remove the carpeting on the right side.

Carefully remove the carpeted piece on the right side of the transmission tunnel.

All the switchover valves are now visible and accessible on the right side of the CCU and radio.

Thank You Brian! How easy. Looks like two of the actuator(?) switches are leaking out their vent holes and not seating properly. I tapped on one and it set and stopped leaking and I could hear whatever diaphram it went to start working. Can those be cleaned and fixed or just replace? Thanks alot for the help!

Those are the switchover valves. They are normally replaced when the don't work properly, but, I suppose that a cleaning attempt wouldn't be out of the question depending on their issues.

I'm a little confused, Big Gold. Do the switches you're talking about look like the photo on the left or the one on the right? The left photo is a vacuum element (or actuator); the right photo is the bank of 6 vacuum switchover valves from an '82 SD.

Yes they are the change-over valves on the right. I get to replace two unless I can figure a way to clean them!
