Question New Flywheel for '91 350SD? Where can I find one???

My mechanic just called with bad news...

We just replaced the starter b/c it seemed to be gone; nothing unusual there, but it had the same problem after the starter was replaced... He says the problem is not the starter, but the flywheel - the teeth are damaged and it needs to be replaced.

He has checked everywhere he knows in the US but cannot find a replacement - he can only find it from Germany. Does anyone know where I might be able to find a replacement flywheel for this darn car???

Parts & Labor for the job is $1100 since the transmission has to come out to replace the flywheel - can anyone help me reduce this cost with a less expensive part?

Any om60X ring gear should work I would think, for that matter any of the 124/201 series or later W126 would probably work as well.
