fuel sender can be repaired

Thought I'd post this before I forget. I am battling an algae problem in my 240D where black crap keeps gunking up the sender. I've had the sender apart about 5 times now and I was not gentle enough the last time and broke both solder connections of the fine (resistance) wire a few weeks ago.. I thought it's nichrome wire which I don't think can be soldered but gave it a try anyway and it took. I spliced in a piece of regular wire (single strand of a stranded wire) to lengthen the now too short resistance wire and it worked!.
