Anyone have luck reviving slow electric windows?

When I purchased my 124 300d I had the slowest windows. So I had new regulators put in and it worked ok but still a little on the slow side.

I'm guessing it's the motors. I've read these can be cleaned and with good (like new) results. Anyone here had these kinds of problems?

Cleaning and lubricating the tracks that the windows run in sometimes helps. If you disconnect the linkage so you can slide the window up and down you will see if it is sticky or not.

That was the first thing we tried on the car, then replaced the regulators (saved the old motors). Still pretty slow though especially when it's cold outside.

Hmmmmm . . . in my W124, the rear windows are slower (and noisier) going back up than I would like but OK going down and the fronts are both OK up and down. The tracks, linkage, gearset, and motor is all that's there.

What about the rubber wipers (weather seals)? On my left rear, I get a horrible screeching noise when that window comes up. I've had the door skin off three times and have finally concluded that the rubber weatherstripping that the glass comes up through is stiff and rubbing very hard on the glass. The weatherstripping has fuzzy on it to lower friction; maybe it rubs off over the years so that the rubber gets bare and rubs more and more on the glass.

Yes, I'm really reaching here, but what else is there?

Thanks Jeremy,
It helps that we're both driving the same cars. The 87's are great aren't they! I really like mine. Something cool about the w123s but getting into the 87 seems so much more refined!

Anyways, you may be right about the weather stripping. Mine probably could use a change for sealing purposes anyways. I'm still guessing it's the motors. I'm wondering if there's a good way to clean them or if they need to just be replaced.

ATF in window motors

I had a similiar issue with my REAL slow windows.

After doing the track/ linkage lube job I removed the motors and poured in ATF then let them soak for a hour or so. I used a battery to spin the motors back and forth a few times then reinstalled.

BIG difference in speed!

Great! Thanks for the idea. That's my kind of idea. Exactly what I was looking for. 4 windows (or 8 windows if doing two cars) can add up QUICK!! I'm talking close to $1k or more just to have fast windows. So your solution is a great idea in my case. I appreciate it!
Nick

I've found ATF to be the best lubricant ever for the wiper arm mechanisms. I hadn't thought of using it for the windows.

You poured it into the motor?
