any particular setting? I assume since the thing rides in the engine compartment all the time, the 140degree water in a dishwasher will not hurt it. but just to be sure... china setting?

I would be concerned with that brown coolant in the expansion tank... yuckky.
ya might be ready for a citric cleaning...

well, i have to ask,... do you do windows?

also, being a left coast commie pinko who has never been in the midwest, i am getting a picture of life there. to wit;

somehow, nobody works, every owns a nice big house, days are spent tracking down cheap cars that are diamonds in the rough (and then leisurely restoring them) and seldom is heard a discouraging word, and the deer and.. wow, when can i move there get me in the "cwc" as well

I ran it through a regular wash cycle with the dry cycle turned off. I also put it in the top rack.

I wish I'd taken some better pics, but you can kind of tell how yellow it was before.

Thats what I don't like about that yellow coolant. You sometimes can't tell if you have new coolant or dirty water......

It looks much better in the pics than it does in person. I guarantee there isn't 40% of the paint still left on the car.
BTW, didn't you do a citric acid flush? Where did you get your citric acid?

One last post before I turn in for the night.

I make homebrew beer and while I was at the supply store, I found citric acid. It's used in winemaking to correct acid levels. So I bought the supplies to make a batch of beer and bought 2.2 lbs. of citric acid for my wagon.

I thought it was funny that my hobbies collided.

I used the Preston citric flush in the yellow bottle found at Wal Mart.
I'm not sure it did much good but the water came out pretty clean when I pulled the block drain initially.

Did I miss the mileage?

Never thought of that. My brother has a winery just up the road. I'll have to check with him.

Although the wagon I just bought, Smash, is the first MB diesel wagon I ever took notice of, the first one I owned, the Silver Flash, aka the Smoker was still a beloved automobile for me.

I loved that wagon...... {it would be a close call as to which one had less paint, Smash or the Flash!

Boy all that was fun last night!

I pulled Smash up on the ramps today to replace the driver's side engine mount that had totally crushed {and I do mean totally!}. No problems getting the 8mm allens out the bottom, although it requires a pry bar and they really snap loose. I couldn't get the engine to raise to save my life. Oh, remembered that sometimes the tranny mount needs to be loosened. Yep, that did the trick. Ran out of time as me and my 11 year old have a Father/Daughter thing at church tonight. Will get back to it tomorrow.
However, I took a direct hit of carb/brake cleaner to the right eyeball!! Thought I was gonna die!!! It's been almost 3 hours and it still feels scratchy although it no longer looks like it's bleeding. Had my safety glasses on, but was crawling out from underneath and removed them. Decided to take one more look up at the passenger side mount screw when a drop landed perfectly in my now-unprotected eye. Holy buckets that hurt. Me thinks that eye protection only works when you actually have them on.....
