Unique vacuum setup 300sdl
In my recently acquired 87 300SDL the vacuum lines have been altered and added to and re-routed etc. There are two lines that are not connected and one seems to be pulling some vacuum. I am attaching some pictures. Can anyone make heads-or-tails of this set up. The engine runs great, trans. shifts hard in 2nd, but it's been sitting for a few years and needs filter change etc.

Optional Vacuum system routing
Yeah...I'd be starting at the Vacuum pump and "Correcting all the Anomalies".

The thing on the firewall is your switchover valve. The boost line from the intake manifold is supposed to go to this valve and then to the ALDA. Your boost line is going directly to the ALDA. The SDL's ALDA control also used vacuum. Just plug the line that is showing vacuum for now and see if the trans shifts better.
To bring it back to stock, take the line from the manifild to the ALDA and connect it to the switchover valve. Then take the vacum line and plug it into the 'Y' connector on the ALDA. There are a bunch of un-needed vacuum lines going from the pump across the engine to the EGR system on the right side of thhe car. These can be removed and capped off. Do a search on EGR valve.

As stated above, the ALDA is currently receiving boost pressure directly from the manifold. The overboost protection valve is bypassed...........providing no safety net if the boost exceeds 15 psi.
In the third photo, there is a line with a green dashpot attached that is connected to nothing. This is a problem. Check on the underside of the blue flying saucer and see if there are two vacuum lines attached under there. Also, follow the line with the green dashpot back to the source and report back with results as to where it leads. |

More pictures of unique set up :-)
I took a few more pictures to better show what this BIZARRE set up really looks like. There is a LARGE filter one of the lines I have no idea what it it for. The first two pics are the "filter" that connects one of the "two" overboost relays. The third shows a "y" that was added to the large vacuum line by the master cylinder
