Brakes Creak While Braking at Low Speeds

Recently did front brakes on 91 300D (Balo rotors, Pagid pads). Have noticed consistent creaking (not squealing) when braking at very low speeds. What typically causes this? Calipers need lubed?

Thanks.

what's creaking? is it possible that the vehicle is diving, and you are hearing ball joint or bushing movement? guide rod wear?

I've been wondering the same...I'm not certain that it's a brake component.

I would say it's the pads. I'm running Hawk HPS pads and if you just barely lift off the brake, even almost so lightly you can't even see the car move I get the creaking sound but only if im stopped- with the car in drive- and barely lift off the brakes. It's just the brake compound of those pads. Oddly enough now that I think about I've got the HPS pads on pretty much everything I own but the W123 is the only one that does it. I figure it's the constant torque the diesels putting on the transmission at a stop.

My groaning did start almost immediately after i switched from MB pads to the HPS pads. I know it's not anything else because literally every single component on the front end was replaced less than 5k ago.

Hope that helps a little.

guide rod?

I'm wondering if my guide rod bushing is worn too. its more like a clicks rather than creak noise as I turn and brake at slow speeds.... them bushings ain't cheap.

Inspect the boots on all the ball joints, if you see a tear, spray a bit of lube in there see if the creak goes away.

My Merc w124 300d does it and so did my 94 Bmw 525tds.

The Bmw did some heavy towing so even with unglazed pads etc it would still do it.

I often sit in traffic and just let the car kinda try and creep off,if you get pedal pressure correct then it sounds like an old creaky spanish galleon and can get really loud.

Good for unnerving passengers who think car being old will fall apart around them.

'What is that noise ???' 'Oh it's always done that but nothings fell off yet !!
