New member of the cheap wagon club

I just bought a cheap 1984 300td. It has some issues but it is pretty solid for a car in Ohio (it came from Texas) so I am happy. I only have one stupid question for now...how do I remove the headrests from the rear seat so I can get it to fold down flat?

Welcome. Be sure to post here if you qualify. May I ask how much you paid? http://www.peachparts.com/shopforum/group.php?groupid=8

Please allow me to send you some non-painted headlight doors that are in decent shape as a welcome gift. I was going to toss them, but if you pay the shipping, they're yours.

Looks like a pretty solid car. You probably have a nasty little surprise waiting for you under the bumper. What happened to the windshield; looks like a huge impact.

headrests, huh? So there's a third row hiding back there, perhaps? I could take that frivolous thing off your hands and throw in a generous donation.

I don't have rear headrests, so couldn't tell you. Paging Jimmy L, Mr. Jimmy Wagonmaster L.

Headrest --- Pull them straight UP as I recall. When you fold down the seat.....I think there are holes in the back that you can stick the headrest into......I sure hope I'm not making this up. You may want to wait for one of the wagonmasters to chime in here.

If you need a front windshield, there is one in the boneyard here. And I have some SLS parts......

Oh, I have some blue seats, too.

Of course, if you find the car is too much work, please let me know. I'm still searching for my FIRST wagon.

I paid $750 for it. Windshield was smashed by some kids. It does have a third row but I kinda like it . As for the headlight doors I will gladly take them off your hands, how much do you think shipping would be to 44805?

daw_two: I have tried pulling them straight up but I couldn't get them out...maybe I am just not pulling hard enough

I have an appointment at a local glass shop to replace the windshield this coming Monday.

Are those blue seats you have in good condition? Just the fronts or would you possibly have the second row wagon seat too? Mine are in rough shape from being a family car in Texas for many years

pull straight up, to stop. at this point there will be a small black button protruding from the rear of the seat. push button and pull to remove.

the same for front seat headrest, except no black button- it is hidden....

oh- nice deal.

You certainly made an impressive entrance into the Cheap Wagon Club, or CWC as we like to call it.

Those very roughly aged leather front seats look almost exactly what came in my cheap wagon. Actually both my cheap wagons came with cracked blue leather, although the '85 ceased being a cheap wagon several years ago.
That looks almost exactly like my first wagon, which was Astral Silver Metallic with blue interior.
You did very well for yourself, and welcome not only to the CWC, but the Diesel Discussion forum specifically. Lots of good knowledgeable folks here, and some have awesome photoshop skills.

Oh, and I need to make one thing very clear: You have a 300TD, not a 300TDT. Don't ever let the allure of the second T get a grip on you.......
{you did it correctly, I'm just required by law to warn you}

Nice 300TDT,. It would be even nicer if it was a 124, but then you could never be a member of the CWC. It's lonely in the EWC, I'm the only member that I know of.

Justin is also a member, but I can't remember his forum ID. Haven't heard from him in awhile. Last I heard he had 2 87's.......
My '85 has morphed into a EWC member over the years!

The EWC club is not one you want to join! I joined by mistake 3 years ago.

At least you're not in the esc (expensive sedan club) I'm in pretty deep with Ol' Turbo. I didn't think I was capable of learning (and spending) so much in 1 year.

oh, those seats look GREAT!
get some good conditioner on them, and they will purr for you.
I would not put blue tex in there if I had leather.
if you want a set of blue tex seats, I can swap you for your leather ones!
My A.S. TD came with Palomino interior... and a crack free black dash! where's the cracks on your blue dash? how many? Texas must have pummeled them.

But MB does it! Surely the people behind the 3.5L OM603 and early build W140s can't be wrong about something!

I didn't like the blue leather seats in my '85 wagon and swapped them for some nice blue MB Tex seats from a Euro wagon {no nets! }
I hope to swap the 2 leather seats from Smash with 2 nice blue MB Tex seats someday......
