hmm I see a C210 Diesel in the works, it'll probably be badged as a C320 Diesel anyways, who really wants a 2anything on the back of their new MB (let alone 3anything)?

I wonder how it will compare to the Jetta TDI. . .

Looks very over complicated, bloated and actually a step backwards in many areas.

It looks like a V6 (It takes up as much space!) but its only a 4. BMW beat MB to producing a 100hp/L 4-banger diesel engine by well over a year ago and MB is still in the R&D phase.

In the article it says that it should be able to achieve 0-60mph in 7.7s. Isn't it slow with 200hp and all that torque?

there is nothing new about the 4cyl engine. It's been used for the past 10 years in c200/220cdi and the e class. The 220 is prone to cracking their heads.

Jeez, didn't they learn their lesson with the infamous 603 heads? I guess not.

Here in europe I've never heard of this problem. The 604/4/6 have the problems with weak IPs and stuck GPs. The CDIs instead might have issues with the injectors or just wiring.

I was helping a friend in troubleshooting a w220 s320 cdi. It would start work and smoke very badly and then die. We just cleaned the injector electrical plugs with electrical contact cleaner and the car was fine.

Though, these are problems that left you stranded, something I don't want to happen in a S class. That's what's keeping me from changing my reliable diesel.

Europe doesn't face high temps like some parts of US does, thats the reason probably that Europe doesn't get cracked heads. Of course MB's traditional stingy cooling system doesn't make the matters any better.

Well, I don't know how hot is in Arizona, but it gets pretty hot standing in traffic for 30 min, without moving, at 40*c (in the shade). Humidity is also very high.
