Bug Tussle Trek (I had the only MB diesel)
The weekend was fun! The Bug Tussle Trek is put on by the AACA Texas Region. The cars have to 25 y/o or older to participate.
I had the only MB, and the only daily driver. It was a blast, and I'll get photos posted. I forgot my camera, so the pics were taken by my mother. Her hubby has a '69 Malibu. Oh, I also got to meet Larry Bible. I ended up parking next to him in Honey Grove, TX during the lunch stop. He is a really nice guy. My favorite car, besides mine of course was the 1920 Packard with the Twin Six.

Yep, I had the pleasure of meeting Grassi and thanks to him, the field of cars was not without an MB, and to make it better, the one that WAS there had a good ol' "rattle motor."
Grassi is a very nice fellow and I immensely enjoyed my brief visit with him. And yes, the 1920 Packard Touring as definitely the show stopper, but there was a very good field of Packards including a beautifully restored 1950 ambulance. There were several early fifties Packards in beautiful condition. When I was a kid I thought that they were the ugliest cars on the road next to the Nashes. In my old age, however, I really admire their engineering and craftsmanship for their day. Grassi should get together some of you to make the Bugtussle Trek next year. Honey Grove is a forgotten little town with so much history it's unbelievable. On Saturday morning I got a private viewing of an 1860's drug store. It was absolutely UNBELIEVABLE and is sitting in the same place as original. It was complete with a cabinet with EVERY PRESCRIPTION issued from 1860 until 1890 in the cabinet from which the labels were dispensed. I've lived in the area over 20 years and never even knew the place existed. So here's my challenge. All you MB rattle motor guys turn out for the Bugtussle Trek next year and show them what diesel MB's are all about. |

Larry has a nice powder blue Galaxie....
The Bug Tussle Trek is put on by the AACA Texas Region. It is a parade of sorts of antique and classic cars and trucks. The cars must be 25 y/o or older to make the run. It starts in McKinney, TX, meanders to Princeton, Farmersville, Wolfe City, BUG TUSSLE (Jed Clampett's home town in the Beverley Hillbillies), Roxton, then have a dinner meeting in Paris, and spend the night. The next day finishes in Greenville, Tx with a watermelon bash. It is a fun time and is family friendly. There are awards for youngest and oldest drivers. Next year will be the 41st annual on the the weekend of August 29-30, 2009.

Now that I know what is involved, everyone is invited, even Jimmy! (Jimmy I did PM you about it back in June)
Sorry guys. My Step Father told me about it and it sounded like fun, so I signed up. You have to become a member of the AACA (Antique Automobile Club of America). It's $35 a year, and an additional $15 to join the Texas region. To do so contact: Bev Podmers Membership Chairman auldcarz@att.net I finally have a few pictures, but I can't seem to get the thumb nail part to work for all to dial-up folks out there.

I figured it out...
Here is my wifie and my MB, my step dad and mom, a '48 Packard ambulance, and a Metropolitan. Then we have the lead truck, some Model A's and the 1920 Packard along with a T-Bird and a 55' Bel Air in the next post

Sounds like a lot of fun. I recall a friend of mine, who owns a couple of Model T's, mentioned this a while back and talked about how much he enjoyed it. IIRC, there is a drive in the Arkansas Ozarks that is fantastic. However, with a low-powered Model T, that must be a slow, slow drive.
Larry, it's great to hear from you again!

grassi,
It's a Galaxie, not a Fairlane. The Fairlane was the mid sized car of the time. The Galaxie was the full sized model. The car you saw me in is very much like the car I was driving when I enlisted in the Army in 1968. |

Larry, sorry about that. I was never a Ford person, so I get them mixed up. Either way your car was sharp! I would like to have my first car again from high school.

Larry,
Like I said, I do not know Ford models very well. Your Galaxie was very sharp.

Looks like a Mercedes SL in the picture? Red one behind the Chevy and in front of the VW Bug, but it looks to be newer than 25 years old R129 maybe?
