Dang, based on the title I was hoping for a spammer to bash. :(

EDIT: Looks like a neat program. Too bad that $12 program runs on a $300 phone.

Matt L 08-26-2008 02:45 PM

How accurate is the thing?

vstech 08-26-2008 03:13 PM

hey, the phone is only 199 now! come on! it's 1/2 the size, 1/2 the price and 2/1 the speed!!! really everybody should have one... it's apple right?
come on. everybody raise my stock prices!!!

Matt L 08-26-2008 03:17 PM

It's certainly not half the price compared to before. $400 + $100*12 compared to $200 + $100*12 is not much of a price reduction.

That's assuming that you must sign up for 12 months. I would suspect that it's longer.

vstech 08-26-2008 03:25 PM

I simply do NOT understand why the iPhone is 200/400 up front, where all other phone plans are free phones and 100 whatever /month... it's mind boggling. and they are selling like crazy!!!
whodathunkit?

TylerH860 08-26-2008 06:27 PM

Well, I'm one of those nuts people on the I phone now, and I just bought it...

Off to test the 500SL.. whoo-hoo

Buy it, unlock it (hack it) and use any provider that you choose (on the GSM network). Please...raise my stock price too. :D

Yes, but what is the actual price of the unit if you buy it without the ATT contract? It's not $200.

Will this software work on anything else? Say the iPod Touch? I could see getting one of those cool little toys.

TylerH860 08-26-2008 07:51 PM

I'm back with results on all 3 of my benzes.
After Seeing this thread I immediately bought the program and tested it out. These are my best results out of 3 runs. I didn’t want the I-phone initially, but now I’m ecstatic to have it.

Seems pretty accurate to me. These are my best runs out of 3:

Norm: 1980 300TD

0-60: 21.85

¼ mile 23.01 at 61.9 MPH

Maximum Acceleration: .49Gs

Peak Horsepower (at wheels): 56 HP:D
________________________________________________

Ol’ Turbo: 1985 300D

0-60: 14.13:eek:

¼ mile 19.81 @ 74.3 MPH

Max Acceleration: .69 Gs

Peak Horsepower (at wheels): 89 HP
_________________________________________________

Zippy: 1985 500SL (Zippy is too fast to attempt a quarter mile safely on public roads)

0-60: 7.57

1/8 mile: 10.38 @ 71.7 MPH

Max Acceleration: .73Gs

Peak Horsepower (at wheels): 159 HP:cool:

Grandma’s car still had a bit more in her, but I didn’t want to push it too hard.

bgkast 08-26-2008 08:09 PM

That's cool, too bad I don't have an iPhone (or 500SL :D)

It comes out around $420 after purchase price, initial service, contract cancellation fees and taxes.

It should work exactly the same on the iPod Touch and 2.5G iPhone/touch since its just an iPhone without the cellular/gps/2.5-3G hardware.

HERE is a direct link that will open iTunes to buy it.

Tyler, wanna mail me that I-phone to see what my 280CE puts out:D JK, of course.

ForcedInduction 08-26-2008 09:36 PM

Check eBay, there are LOTS of "less than smart" people paying $350-400 for used 2.5G iPhones.

I thought that once the 3G came out the old used phones drop under $150. Wrong!

TylerH860 08-27-2008 12:54 AM

I've been playing with it all afternoon. Its an amazing App.

ichbineinekrous 08-27-2008 10:45 AM

This should make it easier to get some real numbers behind everyone's increased hp claims and 0-60 times. As soon as I get my 300d back I'll be buying the app and testing it before and after any future modifications, new injectors nozzles soon! I've had the phone for about a month now and I haven't been impressed with a piece of technology this much in a long, long time. (non-AAPL stock owner);)

vstech 08-27-2008 11:22 AM

hee hee, I paid 7.14/share of my AAPL stock...

bgkast 08-27-2008 11:53 AM

Tyler- you should put it in your pocket and see what your 1/4 mile time is when you are running. :D

1/2 the size? don't think so 'tis actually larger (though 2 grams lighter)...

iPhone 3G:
133 grams
115.5mm x 62.1mm x 12.3mm

iPhone (EDGE)
135 grams
115mm x 61mm x 11.6mm

vstech 08-27-2008 11:56 AM

the width of the unit is thinner on the new 3G unit...

How is 12.3mm thinner than 11.6mm? Or do you mean something else by the 'width of the unit is thinner'?

I bought this application yestarday haven't dove into it does it require the weight of vehicle? any idea on 1980-85 300d's weight? and post some results

TylerH860 08-27-2008 06:01 PM

I posted results on the first page before the post you quoted.

You can get the weight for the driver's side door/door sill. It is required by law to have it.

You have to calibrate your phone, really easy (it tells you what to do) and enter the weight. That's it.
