So what would be the cause (84 300SD by the way)?

Does the lever / slide on the air vent for the rear seats break or come loose somewhere inside the center console? Or, did I accidently knock something off messing around in the center console where the A/C & radio sits?

My question is - what to check first and where? The shop manual / chassis doesn't really say anything about that vent or vent control. I'm wondering if I inadvertently disconnected the vent messing around with something else

It probably came loose in the console. When moving the lever is their little resistance?
