Is sealant required for new water pump?
My neighbor's water pump started leaking from the lower weep hole. He ordered a new one and a new thermostat from Fastlane. The pump came with a new gasket. Does he need to use gasket sealer with the gasket that came with the pump, or can it be put on as is? We took the old one off already, it doesn't appear to have any evidence of sealer on it, just the old gasket. As a side note. His car is the same as mine, '80 300SD, when looking at the old water pump, we noticed the Mercedes Star was on one of the impeller blades. This couldn't be the original pump, could it? It's either that or some previous owner paid extra for the "Star".

You should have just went to the dealer for a new pump.. $25 (+ $45 core).
The new pump comes with a gasket, no sealant required. John |

The one my neighbor bought from Fastlane, was made by Laso.
