valve adjustment help

read tons of posts on valve adjustment procedure for 300d...how tight are the 2 lock nuts supposed to be? feels like i'm putting good amount of pressure on them to loosen so i can adjust with feeler guages...is there something i'm missing or are these 2 lock and adjusting nuts really that hard to undo? thanks!!...made some bent wrenches from pics on site!!!

They should not be that difficult. The bottom one should turn clockwise, IIRC. Make sure you are doing this on a cold engine.

made handles longer now i can get valve adjust nuts loose...if my .10mm feeler guage goes ink then i use a .13 feeler guage that won't go in is that ok?...not sure how slight drag is supposed to feel...if next size up won't go then am i correct? thanks!!!

To simulate a slight drag feel, use your thumb and index finger for pressure on the feeler blade. Adjust your finger pressure until you can just pull the guage out. A valve a little too loose is better than too tight.

It is possible that the wrenches you made at too short. Mine were hand made also.

If it wipes the oil film off the feeler gauge you are good to go.

First time they can be stuck pretty good. It is also not a bad idea to double check your work in a week or two.
