Doors Won't Stay Open

You know how you open your door and you can feel a sort of "click" and they stay open, like, half open and all the way open, and you can clean your car or do whatever.

Apparently, MINE came with an "option" of self-closing doors because they will NOT stay open, NOT ONE.

Its just annoying and I was hoping one of you all could help me remedy this problem. Thanks!

Possibly someone removed or fiddled with the the mechanism that holds the door open... in one respect this might be construed as a positive thing, they are known to fail in the open condition... yes, that means you cannot close the door w/out breaking something. This unfortunate happenstance usually occurs around midnight, in the bad part of town, normally when its raining or snowing.

Yes, you are so right. When my door check went bad on my '84 190D, it failed in the open position and I couldn't close the door. Fortunately I was at home when it happened. For a temporary fix, I removed the door check and removed the 2 ball bearings and spring from the door check to get the door to close. I re-installed the door check so the door wouldn't open to far and damage the door or fender. Afterwards, I replaced it with a new one.

Replace the door checks and eliminate this option.

Could someone post a picture so I know what to look for when I go to the junkyard?
