Have I lost my mind?

That's probably what the person I was one year ago would tell me.

What have I done, you ask? I sold my former daily driver, a 2003 BMW X5 and have chosen to become almost completely reliant on a car that is older me.

The X5 has been issue plagued since running off warranty 2 years ago, totaling well over $6,000 in unscheduled repairs.

I have a few extra bucks in my pocket, and am soon to receive an old friend from my past, a 2004 Jeep Wrangler Rubicon that's been sitting at my parents ski home since 2006. I lived up there attending Colorado Mountain College "ski bumming" for a semester and fell for the rough rider in the process. It only has 10,000 miles on her, 4,000 of which I put on myself while living up there.

As this Jeep is most certainly not a capable highway cruiser, Ol' Turbo will officially take the mantle as my daily driver. While working out the bugs over the past year, I've put a whopping 17,000 miles on it so far. I'm confident the car can handle its official new title, with the exception of salty winter roads that "Ruby" can handle.

So, fellow diesel heads, I need some encouragement for my painful decision. Have I lost my mind giving up my powerful, modern, and women attention grabbing X5 for a much milder, aged 1985 300D?

The X5 is a $hitbox.

Nothing more needs to be said about it.

That seems like too many cars. I'll take that one with the troublesome servo off your hands so I can have a 1980 Coupe and Wagon combo.

I use my 300SDL as a DD, 284,000 miles. Meanwhile I have a 03 Marauder that sits in the garage that has 11,000 miles on it.

Tyler, Mrs. Zeke and I were just talking about you and your X5 today. We were behind one today. She asked why you still had it when you had 3 other amazing vehicles (Ol' Norm's CCU notwithstanding). She decided it must be b/c the X5 was a chick magnet

Anyway, good choice....

Not sure about the jeep. We traded a cherokee for the blue wagon you helped us find and have ever looked back. The jeep was cool, but unreliable.

Good luck with that one

You would only have lost your mind if Ole Turbo was your ONLY car. We can used these as long as we have at least one backup. Two backups is preferable.
I drive the wagon daily and have for almost a year. Hasn't missed a day of service but has had some small issues here and there. Same with China.
Wife is all over me to sell them and have one nice car. She can't understand that I like driving these. I'm perfectly content, and with the weather close to cooling off I will be much more content!
Tyler, a Caped Crusader doesn't need a chick magnet. He IS a chick magnet....... {Chad, you have work to do}

A college student with 4 cars? Yeaah....

You shouldn't need a car to attract the ladies. Thats called cheating.

Part time college student, thank you very much. I'm working full time. My job title is ??? so I just post student in my profile.

As for the 4 cars... 2 were gifts, 2 were bought cheap.

I'm selling because I can see myself going bankrupt on the X5. I don't think a 10,000 mile Jeep will give me much trouble, and if it does, it should be a lot cheaper.

*edit* My profile did actually say "full time college student". Probably because one year ago I was a slippery car salesman and embarrassed to admit it.

carry on Tyler-you're not crazy you're maturing. And if it does mean you're crazy at least you're in good company.

besides, now if a woman is attracted because of your Benz, you know she has good taste.

I feel the same way about the W140! I would really like an S320, but after reading up on them for a short time over in the Tech Help Section, NO WAY!!!!!!
It can't break for less that $3K, and repairs can get over $5K in a hurry!!

Yeah I've been thinking about that too....I'd love to have a W140, but if they break all the time I'd rather stay cheap with a W126 or W123....perhaps even a W124.... I suppose it depends on my future income.
