Clear coat repair

I asked in the past about repairing clear coat and was told it can't be done so this is what I did.
Picture one is what it looked like on the passanger side rear fender
Picture two is what it looked like after I sanded it
Picture three is what it looked like with just the base color sprayed on
Picture four is what it looked like after the clear coat was sprayed and polished

I know it's not perfect but not to bad for a first try

I know this is probably supposed to be in some other section but my car is a diesel and I know there are others here with the same problem I had.
I got all my supplies from paintscratch.com and the color is a good match.

NOW I have to do the roof

Looks real good for a metallic, which is always the hardest to feather in.
If people followed the job you did, it would look near flawless with a solid color.

Looks better than it did before! Good job! I need to do that as well. I hate clearcoat, and how it just separates, discolors, and then flakes off.

I like the old type of paint that you could polish out when it got dull. You could take a car that had been sitting around for years and make it look ok but not with clear coat.

Yeah, me too! All it took was some finishing or rubbing compound based on how weathered it was, then some good wax, like Mother's or Meguire's.

If the rag and your fingers turned the color of the car you were waxing, you were doing a good job. Plus there were a few more layers of paint to work with.

Artistry

Nice job!

Did you "Polish" the clear with progressively finer sandpaper
(I.E. 1200,1500,2000) Or just use a really fine polishing compound?

I'm looking forward to repainting my cars once the 240D is sold! My 300D needs it most, but it is a metallic Anthracite grey. My Wagon is a light ivory and a solid color! That would be the one I start with!

My cousin owns a body shop.

Clear coat can be repaired but the problem is it can't be done flawlessly. Many places will not do it without stripping the whole panel to the color (base coat) then clearing the whole thing. People don't want to pay for several hours of labor for "a six inch long spot."

First of all I polished it with polish I got from paintscratch.com when I ordered the other stuff.
As for what I used to spray it I bought a can of spray paint from them that matched the color code on the plate on my car.
This is what I bought from them;
1 spray can of my color
1 spray can of clear coat
1 bottle of cleaner to got all wax and stuff off the area
1 bottle of polish to use after everthing dried out
some wet sand paper in 1000 and 1500 grit

I also called them to conferm I had everything and they were very helpful

I have enough of everything left to do the ,I think, so thats next and then it will be done. Some day I would like to have the car repainted but in the mean time this works.
